Since the release of Booty Thrill's debut Phewture Funk, an electronic homage to early 80s funk and soul, Dallas native Alex Seikaly has been hard at work on a follow-up. He's spent the last year demoing and experimenting with different production techniques in an effort to release something that rivals his influences and contemporaries. The result, Thrillwave, is a majestic rush of euphoric, "get down" bliss that demonstrates his immense growth as a producer and songwriter. The basslines encapsulate smooth, grooving between hypnotic, textured melodies. Phased filters pulse through samples and beats as if you're on a cruise to another dimension with reverberated hand claps driving the ship. Here, Booty Thrill takes the best parts of funk, hip hop, and dance, and molds them into a fresh, pleasurable experience.
Thrillwave also showcases Booty Thrill's first time inclusion of rappers on his songs. Emcees JWallace ENT, Natural Cure, and Andre Kennedy compliment the songs with their on beat flow and rhythm, proving all along that Booty Thrill's strengths lie beyond instrumental music. The samples have been meticulously dissected, rearranged, and carefully positioned to achieve the ultimate good vibrations.
Booty Thrill's vision for what he hopes people feel sums Thrillwave best: "At the end of the day I'm not trying to be super technical, I'm making fun music people can dance to, but trying to keep substance at the same time. There are producers who are making music that you can just put on in almost any situation and people are like, "Oh Damn, what is this, I like it." That's really what I want Booty Thrill to be."
